Enrolling in two-factor authentication (2FA) for Google accounts significantly enhances account security by adding an extra layer of protection beyond just a password. This reduces the risk of unauthorized access and protects your personal data and communications.

Here, we’ll outline the types of authentication options available and provide step-by-step instructions to guide you through the enrollment process.

4. Ensure you have your Yubikey with you, then click Next.
5. Insert your Yubikey into the USB port of your computer and tap the gold disk on the key. (Wait briefly if your laptop takes time to recognize the device.) A security pop-up will appear; click Allow and then Next.
6. After successful registration, name the Security Key by entering the asset tag from your key, then click Done.
7. To log in using your Yubikey, enter your username and password, click Next, and tap the button or gold contact on your Yubikey.

5. After verification, return to Security > 2FA Authentication > Authenticator App > Set up.
